Relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Don't forget to bring your collection kit with you to the hospital. Bring your collection kit with you to the hospital at the time of birth. Once your baby has been safely delivered, your baby’s umbilical cord will be clamped and cut, as usual. The delivering physician will then clean the insertion point and drawn from the umbilical cord blood into the blood bag provided. The collection takes about five minutes. If your delivering physician/midwife has never performed a collection, we have included detailed instructions in your collection kit so that he/she can become familiar with the procedure. A maternal blood sample will also be drawn.
After the collection, the labor and delivery staff will return the collection kit and the maternal blood sample to you or a designated family member for subsequent delivery to CBBC.
